Paul Mescal mused on one salient lesson from Saoirse Ronan on the importance of women’s safety.
Paul Mescal has made comments regarding the popular television episode, which featured him and actress Saoirse Ronan.
In case ya missed it, last month, Paul and Saoirse were guests on Graham Norton’s show together with Eddie Redmayne and Denzel Washington. Eddie spoke about the reasons behind his promotional campaigns for the new action-adventure series, The Day of the Jackal, Creating Attention When The Money Runs Out. He revealingly stated that he had learned some self-defense tricks wielding a phone. This made Paul jocularly mock the idea of a phone in dangerous situations.
He said, “But come on, who would even think of such things?” If anyone were to try and hurt me, I wouldn’t be crying out for my cell phone.
With a laugh, he said, “Just a second, mom – bang,” which made Saoirse dramatically roll her eyes. “I must agree,” Eddie said. “That is a good point.”

The Late Late Show in Ireland aired yesterday with Paul as its guest. When asked if he was “surprised” by the outcome, Paul replied coolly, “No, we were not surprised because, as you put it, here in a talk show like this, you talk all the time. I am not surprised by the attention the message seems to have attracted, concerned as it is with matters that are of great importance.”
Referring to Saoirse in particular, Paul stated, “She is often, but not always the smartest person in the room – and I think she was quite right.” She was correct in her judgment.
He also added that it is nice to witness such messages being embraced by the masses. He even went on to suggest that it would be fascinating to have that discussion on a daily basis.
